History of ContinYou
ContinYou was formed in 2003 by the amalgamation of two charitable organisations: CEDC, which was the national charity for community-based life-long learning and advocated community involvement in education, health and regeneration; and Education Extra, the national charity for the promotion and support of out-of-school-hours learning (oshl).
The Resource Unit for Supplementary and Mother Tongue Schools (now the National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education) had almost ten years’ experience of supporting supplementary schools across London before it joined ContinYou in 2006.
The National Pyramid Trust, which was established to support the emotional well-being of children and young people through its Pyramid after-school clubs, merged with ContinYou in 2007.
In recent years, we have particularly focused on extending opportunities for learning that counter the effects of social exclusion and injustice. Recently ended projects
School Gates
During the life of the project, over:
- 10,500 parents were contacted
- 200 schools (and nurseries) were involved
- 2,500 parents engaged with a JCP advisor
- 200 parents found work, work placements or voluntary work
- 650 parents took part in training
- 1,000 parents have been involved in enterprise initiatives.

Sing Up
The cluster programme worked with 769 schools throughout England, engaging with more than 37000 young people, enriching their lives not only musically during the four years that the Sing Up and ContinYou partnership worked together.
We also worked with existing clusters of UK schools and partnered them with new clusters from across the globe.
In 2009-10 we developed resource packs for breakfast clubs and Pyramid clubs to help clubs further promote the emotional, communal and well-being benefits of singing.

Change4Life
Between October 2009 and March 2010 ContinYou organised eight regional morning seminars for the Department of Health to introduce potential Change4Life Local Supporters to the campaign and the resources available.
These seminars, which were attended by 1,345 people, were extremely well received, and gave delegates ideas about: local and regional initiatives; networking opportunities with other local supporters and those leading strategic work; and how to help people get more active and eat more healthily.

What's Cooking, Kids?
This healthy eating programme was delivered as part of the North East Strategic Health Authority's New Leaf New Life portfolio, and was funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
ContinYou trained over 200 young people as community food leaders to run the clubs, far exceeding its target of 50, and over 2,000 young people in the North East benefited from the project.
Lessons learned from this programme have since been incorporated into the Coventry Cook and Eat Well project.
