Led by some of the nation's best singing leaders, the Sing Up Training Programme will enable teachers to refresh and bring their teaching to life, providing them with skills that can be applied to teaching all subjects.

This top quality training covers particular subjects (eg vocal health, transitions, choirs and singing in the primary curriculum) suiting all levels of experience. Each training day will run between 10 am and 4 pm with lunch and will take place in venues across the nine regions of England.

The first wave of dates have been made available for booking with many more being added all the time. Here is a taster of what is on offer:

  • Jason Singh - Beatboxing and the Power of the Human Voice: Always wanted to have a go at Beatboxing and didn't realise you could use it in the classroom? This mind-blowing session is for you - it's suitable for anybody, no matter the experience, so give it a go!
  • Lin Marsh - Going for Quality: This practical workshop, ideal for those already leading singing, explores tone, articulation, vowels and vocal timbre. Lin will also give you some fantastic rehearsal techniques to improve your group's performance.
  • Michael Harper - Talking Technique: This one-day introductory workshop aims to increase confidence and vocal skills and is particularly relevant for teachers with less experience at leading singing activities. It covers how the voice works, body and voice awareness, use of the voice in the classroom for speaking and singing and general vocal health.

The cost will be £170 + VAT, with discounts available for group bookings. Bookings can be made by visiting the skills and training section of the Sing Up website: http://www.singup.org/skills-training/get-training/ or call us on: 01634 729883. About Sing Up

Sing Up is the National Singing Programme which aims to put singing at the heart of primary school-aged children’s lives. The programme includes an online resource and magazine to help primary school teachers and parents encourage children to sing everyday.

The initiative, championed by the composer and broadcaster Howard Goodall who is the National Singing Ambassador, was the result of research carried out by the Music Manifesto. It is supported by a £40m government investment over four years and the collaboration of a consortium led by national charity Youth Music with advertising agency Abbott Mead Vickers, music publishers Faber Music and The Sage Gateshead. The combined expertise of these four organisations is bringing Sing Up to schools through a programme of workforce development for teachers, building an accessible singing resource and a public facing media campaign to highlight the role and contribution that singing can play in the school, the home and community.

The resource consists of a website that provides lesson plans and tips for introducing singing into the classroom; a web-based songbank of audio tracks and easy to follow music; and a termly magazine (with CD) full of articles from singing experts and practitioners. The programme aims to ensure that singing is used as a tool for teaching many subjects and that singing becomes an everyday activity for children all over the country. The songbank is regularly updated and aims to offer 300 songs to schools by the end of 2009.

An extensive programme of continuing professional development and training is building the confidence and expertise of teachers and musicians in leading and supporting children’s singing. The over-arching aim of Sing Up is to ensure that all schools for primary-aged children throughout England are ‘singing schools’ by 2011.
