Involved in community-based learning?
Looking to develop your skills and gain a postgraduate qualification?
ContinYou’s innovative postgraduate programme in leading community learning is designed to meet the professional development needs of all those engaged in leading community learning – such as school and youth work leaders, children’s centre and Sure Start workers, and local authority and extended schools staff.
It explores the concepts of leadership and learning in community-based contexts. This is particularly relevant given that:
- the Every Child Matters agenda emphasises the need for multi-agency working to provide coherent services to children and their families
- increasing credibility is being given to claims which suggest that engaging the whole community in learning is an important means of continuing to raise achievement
- the provision of community-based learning is increasingly seen as a valuable way of engaging some adults in learning opportunities
- new methods of teaching and learning need to be explored if targets to increase basic skills levels are to be reached
- efforts are being made to provide learning in different contexts, such as regeneration, housing, health and justice.
Our programme, which is delivered in partnership with Staffordshire University, provides professionals working in these fields with the opportunity to consider and develop their understanding of these evolving concepts.
Our courses are structured in such as way that they provide three stand-alone qualifications: Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and MA in Leading Community Learning. Students can also attend one or more of the taught days on all our postgraduate courses.
‘Having the opportunity to listen to and learn from some of the most respected practitioners in education has been a real privilege. People like Professor Charles Desforges, John West-Burnham, Bernard Davies and Alan Dyson have influenced education substantially over the last decades with grounded theoretical perspectives and practice.’ (Ema Kirbyson, Extended Services Co-ordinator, Worcestershire County Council)
