Julian Piper awarded OBE for Services to Children and Young People
ContinYou is very proud to report that Julian Piper, our recently retired Director of Extended and Integrated Services, has been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for Services to Children and Young People, in the New Year’s Honours List.
Julian successfully pioneered and led ContinYou's support to schools and local authorities throughout England as they meet the DCSF's requirement that all must schools provide access to a core of extended services, which include a menu of after school activities, good quality childcare and parenting support, by 2010.
Julian is nationally recognised as the foremost expert in the field of extended services and has been greatly influential as a passionate advocate for the benefits to children and young people of this exciting new approach to schooling.
During his seven years at ContinYou he spoke at countless conferences and seminars all over the country on extended schools for head teachers, LEA officers, health staff and other agencies and has been a mentor at the highest level to others working in the field of extended services.
ContinYou is delighted that Julian's fantastic achievements have been honoured in this way and we hope it will provide a pleasing start to a long and happy retirement.
Despite the loss of Julian, ContinYou's work supporting the roll out of the Extended Services programme on behalf of the DCSF must continue and we are pleased to report that Joe Hayman will be joining ContinYou to replace Julian as National Programme Director. He comes with experience of leading national work in the Youth Justice Board for England and Wales.
Pam Boyd - interim Chief Executive of ContinYou said: "I have worked with Julian for more than five years and want to put on record our thanks for and recognition of the work he has done for ContinYou, for schools, children young people and communities across England. He is missed by his friends and colleagues here but has left a fantastic Legacy that we are sure will be built upon by Joe Hayman".
