Our aims
We aim to create learning opportunities with a difference – opportunities that reflect different learning styles and different needs. We believe that it is vital to engage and involve people in making decisions about their own learning and well-being. We base our work on the following beliefs:
- Learning is about much more than what happens at school.
- Learning is a lifelong process.
- Access to learning is a crucial factor in achieving social justice.
We know that poverty has a big impact on health and achievement throughout life. For example, research shows that, at school age, pupils eligible for free school meals have lower levels of attainment, and this applies for all ethnic groups. Also, those who leave school lacking initial qualifications are less likely to benefit from training at work or from adult education outside the workplace, and they have poorer health outcomes. This is the cumulative chain of disadvantage that ContinYou strives to break.
We want to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to be involved in learning, regardless of their current or past experience of different learning settings, and their socio-economic circumstances. We are especially committed to working with those who are disengaged, and who have benefited least from formal learning.
Our aim is to build learning communities that continue to thrive after our involvement has ended. We also aim to share knowledge about what works, and to pursue funding to do more of what works.
