Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP)

Since the Education and Inspection Act 2006, all local authorities have a duty to ensure that young people have access to positive activities. As part of this duty, local authorities are encouraged to consider the value of activities that meet the needs of different faith and cultural groups of young people.

Supplementary schools offer young people positive activities that they attend voluntarily. In planning and auditing activities that are available, local authorities should include supplementary schools, particularly when assessing the needs of different faith and ethnic groups.
