School improvement and standards

Data collected by children’s services across England demonstrate that supplementary schools can indeed contribute to raising achievement.

Research has also shown that pupils attending supplementary schools generally found it enjoyable and that the experience increased their engagement in learning.

Creating partnerships with local supplementary schools and exchanging information on pupils’ behaviour and achievement in both mainstream and supplementary settings can inform the planning and delivery of teaching and thus help raise standards.

Successful partnerships with supplementary schools can be included in self-evaluation forms and will be looked upon favourably by HMI inspectors.
