Arts and diversity

Arts Council England and the NRC have worked in partnership to research Arts and Diversity in supplementary schools

During January to March 2008, Diana Pao (Diversity Officer – Decibel, Arts Council England, London) worked on secondment at the NRC. Her purpose was to examine the provision of arts and engagement with arts in the supplementary schools sector. Diana worked closely with NRC staff, meeting with teachers/representatives of supplementary schools in Lewisham to discuss their operation, and the ways they engage with the arts and their development needs in terms of integrating arts in supplementary education. A downloadable report of findings has been produced and is available to view at the bottom of this page.

Rachel Bond, Training and Events Manager, NRC said:

'This is a great opportunity to delve a little deeper into existing arts provision and how the arts may be used in the supplementary school classroom. The supplementary schools directly involved will greatly appreciate this input, and the findings and further interest in the work of supplementary schools will be valued by many more in the sector.'
