The process

The project will be delivered through:
- the establishment of an advisory group consisting of representatives from across the Muslim communities in England, Islamic scholars and educational experts who will advise and steer the project
- a critical review of existing resources and materials used by Muslim communities in mosque schools to teach Islamic traditions, values and citizenship to young people
- the development of new resources and materials for 7 to 14 year olds for use in mosque schools, building on existing resources, but based upon the Qualification and Curriculum Authority’s (QCA) programmes of study
- the validation of the citizenship curriculum, resources and materials by a Validation Board consisting of key Muslim scholars and mainstream educationalists from across the country
- effective consultation with, and the proactive involvement of, madrassah teachers, assistants and of young people themselves to pilot the citizenship curriculum in five areas – which are likely to be Bradford/Kirklees, Leicester, Birmingham, Oldham/Rochdale and one area in London but are yet to be confirmed
- the effective support and training of madrassah staff involved in the pilots
- the development of suitable materials which can be used by mainstream schools to teach Islamic values in the citizenship curriculum.
'O’ YOU who have attained to faith! Be ever steadfast in your devotion to God, bearing witness to the truth in all equity; and never let hatred of any-one lead you into the sin of deviating from justice. Be just: this is closest to being Godconscious. And remain conscious of God: verily, God is aware of all that you do.'
(Holy Quran, Ch 5, Ver 8)
