Share - An evaluation of the first two years
Dr John Bastiani
Share is a national project which helps parents, teachers and children to work together. It has been proved time and time again that young children learn much better if their parents are involved. Many parents want to help their children with reading, writing and maths at home, but aren't sure about what is the best way of going about it. Share is a practical, hands-on programme which helps settings to help parents. Share has generated a large body of knowledge and experience about setting up home-school initiatives in a wide variety of settings.
This report is an essential guide for all settings and authorities wanting to improve their work with parents and especially for those thinking of joining Share.

Dr Ann Lewis, Institute of Education, University of Warwick
Share is a national parental involvement programme which aims to help parents better support their children's learning at home in literacy and numeracy. Working through settings it is an inclusive model and has successfully been implemented at Key Stage 1 across the UK.
This report, prepared by Dr Ann Lewis of Warwick University, demonstrates how the Share model has been successfully developed to meet the needs of families and settings working with older pupils at Key Stage 2.
An Evaluation of Share at Key Stage 3
Lesley Kendall, National Foundation for Educational Research
This report looks at the piloting of the Share programme and materials with the parents of children at Key Stage 3. The piloting took place during the school year 2000/01, in nineteen schools in nine LEAs across England and Wales. Parents of pupils in Year 7 were invited to use materials produced and provided by Share to support their children's learning.
The report considers issues such as methods of recruiting parents to the Share programme, and the format and frequency of Share sessions. It reports in detail on the views of parents, pupils and teachers about Share, with extensive quotations from questionnaires and interviews.
An evaluation of Share at the Foundation Stage
Professor Iram Siraj-Blatchford, with Bet McCallum, Institute of Education, University of London
Share is a community development programme that is aimed at increasing parents' involvement with their children's education at home. The materials produced are intended to improve the quality of parents's involvement in their children's home education. Share also aims to advance pupils' learning while, at the same time, enhancing and recognising parents' skills and knowledge through an accreditation scheme.
In 2002, Share extended its work to include the Foundation Stage, and a pilot programme using newly developed materials was launched. The evaluation ran from October 2002 until March 2004. Click to download the Executive Summary (PDF File, 90 KB).
