Facilitation training

Generic facilitator training for working with groups of parents

Since the introduction of Every Child Matters, many community and children’s workers have been needing to learn new skills to help them engage with adults and parents, in order to have a greater effect on the life chances and achievements of the children they work with.

Often workers are being asked to step outside their ‘comfort zone’ and to recruit and work with groups of adults. This can be a challenging prospect – perhaps because these workers have, until now, worked only with children or young people, or perhaps because they are more used to working with parents and carers on a one-to-one basis.

ContinYou has responded to this need by producing a practical, generic training package on developing facilitation skills for working with adults in a variety of situations, such as in parenting or family learning groups, or task groups or developmental support groups; or in consulting and supporting community groups.

  • three consecutive days training
  • a comprehensive pack of materials for delegates
  • host to provide venue and refreshments
  • cost: £3,500 plus VAT

The training meets National Occupational Standards for Work with Parents which apply across the four countries of the UK.

WWP319, Work with groups of parents
WWP318, Develop training sessions
WWP407, Monitor and evaluate the impact trends and developments in parenting.

Feedback from delegates indicates that they will also use the skills for:

  • children’s support groups
  • behaviour management
  • parents of young people with intensive needs
  • excluded young people
  • one to one
  • Steps training
  • Training CAB advisors
  • school groups
  • team meeting
  • family assessment
  • presentations
  • consulting the community
  • work with offenders
  • everyday life.
