Getting started

Providing a varied menu of study support activities can sometimes feel daunting. There will be a number of questions:

  • Where do you start?
  • What do you prioritise?
  • What will work?
  • Who will run the activities? and
  • What practical issues are associated with opening up the school outside school hours?

Our advice is – start simple, build on what works and don’t be afraid to experiment and take risks.

This section of the site provides you with the tools needed to make the first steps, to audit what’s needed, to staff activities and get the necessary funding or resourcing to get things off the ground. If you are at a more advanced stage in your study support programme, we still advise you to familiarise yourself with this material, but then go to the 'Keeping it going' section.

£££ If you are interested in resources to kick start or pump prime your study support activity or project, visit the funding pages of the site.
