The Year of Farming and Food commences in September 2007 and will run to July 2008. It is aimed at helping young people learn more about how food is grown and produced, how it reaches the consumer and the impacts on health and the environment. For further information visit:

Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF) are holding an Open Farm Sunday on 1 June 2008.  This is an opportunity for the general public to visit farms (there are approximately 400-600 farms on board with some in the East Midlands) and learn about food, farming and the environment. Further details about LEAF and the Open Farm Sunday event itself can be found at the following links:

British Food Fortnight now in its seventh year runs from 20 September to 5 October 2008. It is the biggest national celebration of the diverse and delicious range of food that Britain produces.

Schools are being invited to bring chefs into the classroom to teach children how to cook and to enter British Food Fortnight’s 'Cook for Life' Challenge, sponsored by Kenwood, for the opportunity to win class sets of cooking equipment.

9,000 chefs are at the ready to help schools teach children about the delights of our national produce and how to cook. This year they are being joined by retailers who are invited to donate food to schools for cooking lessons and to host school visits in order to teach children how to shop beyond the sweetie shelves.

All the resources to take part are on the website: www.britishfoodfortnight.co.uk. Read  examples of how schools participated last year, download the school’s ‘Putting the Ooo back into food’ resource packs and obtain details of how to take part in the British Food Fortnight ‘Cook for Life’ Challenge, sponsored by Kenwood.
