Out-of-school-hours learning 2010
‘Every child will receive a full prospectus of out-of-school-hours activities … by 2010.’
The Learning Country: a paving document, National Assembly for Wales, 2001
‘[To] tackle poverty of educational opportunity and raise standards in schools… [we will] enrich non-formal learning and help raise standards in basic and key skills as well as in curriculum areas and personal, social and emotional development by promoting Out of School Hours Learning’
The Learning Country: vision into action, National Assembly for Wales, 2006
ContinYou Cymru believes that every child and young person should experience a full range of quality out-of-school-hours learning (oshl) activities as an integral part of their learning and development, complementing learning in the classroom.
While many local authorities, schools, and a wide range of statutory and voluntary organisations already deliver and support oshl, we recognise that not all children and young people currently have access to these important opportunities.
It us our aim to capture the breadth, depth and impact of oshl provision across the country – not just now, but up to 2010. We are, therefore, inviting all those involved in delivering and supporting oshl to sign up to the pledge below, and commit to actions that help meet the Learning Country target.
We are also asking organisations to give us a quick snapshot of where they are up to in their current oshl provision – so we can identify the progress made every year until 2010. Once you have signed up, you will be able to download and print off a certificate, demonstrating your commitment to providing a wide range of oshl activities for children. You will also be able to read about, and hopefully make links with, other organisations.
