Children's centres

Together for Children (TfC) has been appointed by the DCSF to support the expansion of the Children’s Centres programme. Currently there are nearly 1,100 such Centres. By 2008 this number will increase to 2,500.

Responsibility for delivering Centres rests with local authorities, who have been given a capital allocation for any building work required. The role of TfC is to support LAs by analysing their strengths, weaknesses and capacity to deliver their target number of centres. We will do this by concentrating our efforts on the most vulnerable authorities and offering support and intervention strategies.

Intervention strategies, or toolkits, will be developed nationally so that they can be drawn on by regional programme leads and local programme advisers and delivered to individual LAs, or groups of LAs.

The Together for Children Partnership

The Together for Children partnership was formed to bring together national expertise in children's services and programme management.

Each of the partner organisations has specific areas of expertise and together they form a strong and dynamic team with an unrivalled national profile and a strong focus on support and delivery.
