What are the Breakfast Club Plus Awards?
The Breakfast Club Plus awards focus on excellence and innovation in five key categories:
- Healthy Lifestyle
- Community involvement
- Sustainability
- Extra Learning
- Breakfast Club Champion
Additionally in 2009 we presented awards to:
- Best breakfast club in each UK country: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
- Best Local Authority
Awards made were:
- Winners of the five key category and country awards - £1,500
- Winner of the Local Authority award - Breakfast cereal for one year for ten clubs
- Runner up in the five key categories - £500
- Runner up in the country awards - Breakfast cereal for one year
- Highly commended clubs - Breakfast Club Plus Award Certificate
Additionally, clubs in each category who reached the final stage of judging each received a ‘finalist’ certificate to recognize their valued application.
We received an extremely high number of quality applications, from a hugely diverse number of settings and were impressed by the commitment shown by all the applicants to developing and establishing sustainable breakfast clubs.
Prize for every entry
In addition to the above prizes, each entrant to the competition will receive a free set of Oxford Books.
There are four books available, all to do with handwriting:
- Pencil Control
- Learning Letters
- Learning Numbers (how to write them)
- Cursive

Background to the awards
In association with Kellogg's ContinYou has run a national Breakfast Club Plus Award scheme since 1998. Award winners have helped inform national research and policy development. These awards are one way we can celebrate the achievements and benefits of breakfast clubs and we hope the winners offer inspiration to others.
