ContinYou are delighted to announce the launch of the national Breakfast Club Plus Awards, funded by Kellogg’s.

What are the Breakfast Club Plus Awards?

In association with Kellogg's ContinYou has run a national Breakfast Club Plus Award scheme since 1998. Award winners have helped inform national research and policy development. These awards are one way we can celebrate the achievements and benefits of breakfast clubs and we hope the winners offer inspiration to others.

What are the categories?

This year’s awards focused on excellence and innovation in the following five key categories:

Promoting a healthy lifestyle
Community involvement
Long life and sustainability
Extra learning
‘Breakfast Club Champion'

Country-wide awards

For the best breakfast club in each UK country: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The winner of each country award will be chosen from the entrants for the five key categories.

Please note, you cannot apply for the country-wide award on its own.

Inaugural Local Authority Award

We also wish to recognise the strategic commitment that is being made locally, and we wish to identify and recognise the UK local authority which has done the most to promote and support the sustainable development of breakfast clubs.

What are the prizes?

Five key categories

£1,500 for each category winner
£500 for a runner up in each category
Certificate for highly commended club in each category

Country Award

£1,500 for the winning breakfast club in each UK country

Local Authority award

Breakfast cereal for a year, for ten breakfast clu bs
Award certificate to recognize their valued work.

Prize for every entry

In addition to the above prizes, each entrant to the competition will receive a free set of Oxford Books.

Pencil Control
Learning Letters
Learning Numbers (how to write them)
Cursive

As part of the application process, your breakfast club will be added to the Breakfast Club Plus register.

The closing date for application has now been extended to 22 December 2008.

What happens next?

A panel will shortlist the applications to go forward to the final judging stage. A final judging panel of experts, with expertise in all aspects of the awards and wider agendas, will meet in early 2009 to select winners, runners up and highly commended clubs.

Following this selection process, members of the judging panel will visit clubs, unannounced, to quality assure the awards process.

The winners, runners up and highly commended clubs will be announced in March 2009.

Winners, runners up and highly commended clubs will be contacted a week before the awards are publicly announced, so that we can support the expected press and media coverage and arrange presentations.
