Supporting parents to engage in their child’s early learning, DCSF, April 2008

This briefing document provides evidence showing why programmes supporting parental engagement in their young children’s learning and development should be prioritised within local decision making and Children and Young People’s Plans. It draws on the Early Learning Partnership Project (ELPP) – a government-funded parental support and family learning initiative involving a number of partner organisations, including ContinYou.

Strand 1 of the project was based around delivery and engagement; in Strand 2 Oxford University evaluated the models used and their impact; and Strand 3 focused on workforce development. To deliver Strand 1 a number of early years providers used the Share model of family learning. In Strand 3, ContinYou delivered two training programmes to hundreds of practitioners – Preparing for Partnership with Parents (P4PP) and Share Plus (parental support).
