Football Foundation
Funding available: Small Grants – up to £10,000; Community Grants - £10,000 to £250,000
The community scheme aims to create opportunities and build communities by funding projects that use football and sport as a force for social change. The football foundation fund projects that address social exclusion and inequalities in education and health.
The community small grant scheme funds projects that aim to increase participation by both players and volunteers by supporting the costs associated with providing new activity.

e-Learning Foundation
Application deadline: 5pm, 24 September, 2008.
The e-Learning Foundation provides grants to schools in the UK to give their most deprived students and their families access to technology at home.
Grants from the e-Learning Foundation help a school operate an equity scheme by providing the funding for their poorest families who would find it hard to donate at the recommended level.

Waitrose ‘Community Matters’
Funding available: £1,000 per month
Application deadline: July 2009
The 'Community Matters' initiative will allocate £1,000 a month to each of Waitrose's 190 branches to distribute amongst three local community projects.
To be considered for a donation, good causes and charities should contact their local Waitrose branch store. Waitrose employees will then vote which three causes to support each month.

The VOLANT Charitable Trust
The VOLANT Charitable Trust was set up by the author J K Rowling to support charitable causes.
The Trust supports charities and projects, whether national or community-based, at home or abroad, that alleviate social deprivation, with a particular emphasis on women’s and children’s issues.

Sustainable Development Fund (DEFRA)
Funding available: up to 75% of the total cost in England and up to 50% in Wales. The grant can be just a few hundred pounds up to many thousands of pounds.
The Sustainable Development Fundgrant scheme encourages individuals and communities to find sustainable ways of living and working, whilst enhancing and conserving the local culture, wildlife and landscape.
Applications can be made by individuals, businesses and community groups, in the public, private or voluntary sector.
They are looking for projects that show some of the following things:
- Environmental, social and economic sustainability
- Explore 'models' or 'best practice' for sustainable living through innovative ideas
- Support or involvement of local communities
- Involve action by young people
- Encourage links with urban groups and visitors.

Wilkinson hardware stores Helping Hand scheme
Wilkinson hardware stores supports UK charities which are local to their stores. Each year a contribution is made from company profits to community initiatives within the company's trading areas, supporting education, the family, sports and arts.
The company's Helping Hand scheme offers vouchers and financial support to local groups, charities and organisations within the store's catchment area.

The ASDA Foundation
The ASDA Foundation is a charitable trust which was set up to support local good causes chosen by their staff, and is funded by profits from the mid-week national lottery. They support a wide range of good causes with which their colleagues are involved — including local charities and playgroups to football teams.

Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards
Application deadline: Children’s welfare and education (including special needs schools) 31 January each year; elderly and disabilities 30 June each year
Grants available: £1,500 to £5,000
Community Awards benefit local organisations whose core work supports children’s education and welfare, children and adults with disabilities, and elderly people. Tesco
aim to give around £360,000 each year through the Community Awards scheme.

Njoya Foundation Grants
Application deadline: There are four application deadlines: Spring – 12th May, Summer – 12th August, Autumn – 12th November, Winter – 12th February
Grants available: £50 to £500
The objectives of the Foundation are to:
- Advance the life and the education of boys between the ages of 5 and 15 of African and African-Caribbean descent by developing their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible young adults
- Advancing education in African culture and traditions involved in cultural activities and projects
The Foundation provides a series of small grants to projects which they feel meet these objectives.

British Council Anglo-Spanish, Anglo-French and Anglo-German partnerships
Funding available: Various
Application deadline: 10 October, 2008
The British Council has announced that primary, secondary and special schools, as well as colleges of further education can apply for funding through the Anglo-Spanish, Anglo-French and Anglo-German Partnerships to undertake a variety of activities in partnership with Spanish, French and German schools.

City Challenge programme
Funding available: £400
Gifted and talented pupils in London, the Black Country and Greater Manchester will be entitled to £400 a year to spend on after-school clubs and other enrichment activities as part of the government’s ‘City Challenge’ programmes.
Over 1,500 Year 10 pupils eligible for Free Schools Meals are set to benefit each year under these new plans. The support will cover raising the attainment and aspirations of these pupils as well as providing them with university-led outreach activities, guidance and mentoring.

Grassroots Grants Small Grants Programme
Funding available: Up to £5,000
Application deadline: March 2011
The Grassroots Grants scheme will support South West community groups with an annual turnover of less than £20,000 to develop and run projects that meet a range of local needs and make a difference in local neighbourhoods.

Wales
FSA Wales Awards for Food Action Locally
Prizes available: Winners receive £2,000 for investment into their healthy eating initiative. Runners-up receive £1,000. Winners and runners-up will also receive a celebratory fruit bowl and a certificate.
Application deadline: The awards are launched on 22 September, and the closing date is 12 December.
Food Standards Agency Wales runs the annual Awards for Food Action Locally (AFAL) scheme. The Awards are open to all individuals or organisations whose work aims to improve the diet of their local community in Wales.
Awards will be made to the five projects considered to make the most significant contribution to improving diet in their community. Five runners-up will also be awarded.
There are three categories for nominations this year.
