Parents and family learning
Parents have a vital role to play as the first educators of their children. The support that children receive at home is key to their ability to make the most of educational opportunities. ContinYou therefore considers it essential that parents receive as much support as possible to enable them to fulfil this role, and that those who work with children do their utmost to involve parents.
ContinYou aims to help parents to support their children’s learning through:
- training teachers and other practitioners to work with parents to help them understand more about how children learn and how parents can help their children at home
- offering parents opportunities to learn, and to have their learning accredited
- providing resources to support family learning.
ContinYou works with schools and other agencies to encourage greater involvement by parents, especially parents that services may find ‘hard to reach’, including fathers.
ContinYou aims to help parents reflect on how they carry out their role as parents, and to enable them to find positive ways of dealing with their children’s behaviour. It does this through providing training programmes and resources for practitioners who work with parents.
