Skilled for Health case studies

We know from the national evaluation of the second phase of Skilled for Health (April 2009) that there have been some very positive outcomes for participants as a result of attending the Skilled for Health courses that have been running around the country.

In terms of health outcomes, participants have said they know more about how to keep physically and mentally healthy and have also cascaded their new knowledge to their families and communities. Some participants have become better able to manage ongoing medical conditions such as diabetes by understanding the links between their diet and their condition. Many participants are eating more healthily and exercising more often.

With regard to learning, for many participants, Skilled for Health has represented their first taste of learning in many years, often following negative experiences in the past.  The vast majority of participants completed the whole course and really enjoyed it and 70% of them said that they were interested in going on to take up further learning opportunities. Many participants reported that their Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills had improved to some degree by the end of the course.

Below are a number of case studies about Skilled for Health participants which showcase the way in which the programme has impacted on their own individual lives…
