ContinYou - Changing lives through learning
ContinYou is one of the UK's leading education charities. We believe that every child and young person must have an education that enables them to develop to their full potential.

ContinYou's role

ContinYou was commissioned by the Department of Health (DH) to pilot the the SmallSteps4Life programme through extended services in England and community focused schools in Wales to test the suitability of these settings for the delivery of this health challenge approach.

This work involved four elements:

  • development of a SmallSteps4 Life 'how to guide'
  • development of a practitioner workshop for people who deliver extended services/community focused schools provision
  • piloting of the 'how to guide' and accompanying practitioner workshop across two clusters of schools, one in England and one in Wales, between September and December 2010 (three schools from Bournemouth in the South West region took part in the pilot in England; the pilot area in Wales involved the Bryn Celynnog Cluster in Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, from which seven schools took part)
  • evaluation of the project based on participants' and practitioners' feedback.

‘Students can see that even a small amount of exercise soon builds up and that you don’t have to do a marathon to walk a fair distance in a day.’
