ContinYou - Changing lives through learning
ContinYou is one of the UK's leading education charities. We believe that every child and young person must have an education that enables them to develop to their full potential.

Create an effective learning environment

Code of Practice Statement: Create a well-organised environment in which everyone can work comfortably and has clear expectations of behaviour that supports learning.

GOLD STANDARD: Routines and procedures encourage good relationships and high expectations of standards of behaviour.

At silver level we expect to see Code of Conduct for staff and pupils, at the Gold level we expect to see that staff and pupils have been engaged to develop these standards.  For example:

Student Code of Conduct – There may be a student committee who act as a voice for the students ensuring that their views are heard. Minutes from the student council discussing such policies may be used for evidence along with the policy/standards they have developed.

Staff Code of Conduct – As with the Student Code of Conduct we would like to see evidence of involvement from staff, this could be from a staff training day or meetings where they have input into the development of routines and procedures.

Other evidence - At this level your school should be producing an Annual Report. This document is an extension of your organisation and those who read it will draw conclusions about your school from it.

You may wish to include:

  • once or two annual reports, newsletters or school magazine (expectations of pupils and the ethos of the school)
  • behaviour contract
  • handbook for staff and volunteers (behaviour policy, expectations etc)
