In-house training

Local authorities or clusters of schools can buy in any of the courses listed below; each course costs £450. NRC supplementary school members can book us to deliver any of the courses on site for 10 to 25 participants at a reduced rate of £350 per day.

Our training can be split into two main areas: management and teaching.

Open College Network (OCN) course at level 2, worth three credits (Level 2 is comparable to NVQ2, Intermediate GNVQ and GCSE grades A*-C)

What will the course cover?

  • sharing views about supplementary schools and why they are important to children and families
  • learning how to create an effective learning environment and good learning relationships
  • understanding the welfare needs of students, and learning how to support them
  • learning how to put in place all the policies and procedures that funders and partners expect
  • planning helpful new partnerships to support your work
  • learning how to monitor and evaluate the success of your supplementary school.

Cost

The total cost includes:

  • OCN course and student registration fee
  • tutor fee (6 x 3.5 hours)
  • assessment
  • internal moderation
  • management and administration
  • Learner file for each learner.

Local authority/CVS provides venue and refreshments as appropriate.

Total cost for 10 learners: £3,532, plus VAT
Total cost for 15 learners: £3,707, plus VAT

Special educational needs

Explore the key issues affecting young people with special educational needs (SEN). Use case studies to examine the practical implications of government legislation and SEN policies, and become equipped with practical strategies for supporting children with SEN in schools.

Effective teaching skills in supplementary school

Open College Network (OCN) course at Level 2 and Level 3, worth three credits.

What will the course cover?

  • gain an overview of the education system in England and the how supplementary schools contribute to child development
  • the roles and responsibilities of teachers and understand how you can support children’s welfare needs and special educational needs
  • learn how to plan an effective lesson and use resources to enhance learning
  • understand the different ways in which we all learn and strategies to support learners
  • learn about formative and summative assessment, when and why to assess and the importance.
  • know how to evaluate your own teaching and understand the teaching/training cycle.

The total cost includes:

  • OCN course and student registration fee
  • tutor fee (7 x 3.5 hours)
  • assessment
  • internal moderation
  • management and administration
  • learner and resource files.

Local authority/CVS provides venue and refreshments as appropriate.

Total cost for 10 learners: £3,682, plus VAT       
Total cost for 15 learners: £3,857, plus VAT
