ContinYou Cymru’s fourth annual conference

Take your partners: the role partners play in the development of community focused schools and out-of-school-hours learning.

Our fourth annual conference took place on 18 November 2008, in Llandrindod Wells with 190 delegates representing Welsh Assembly Government, local education authorities in Wales, schools, national organisations and the voluntary sector. This year’s conference explored ‘the role that partners’ play in the development of Community Focused Schools and out-of-school-hours learning.

The keynote speakers were:

  • Alan Hatton-Yeo, Chief Executive, the Beth Johnson Foundation
  • Cefin Roberts, Artistic Director of Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru and Director and Conductor of Ysgol Glanaethwy
  • Paul Morgan, Welsh Assembly Government

Take your partners and your voice: audience participation

Using an electronic response system, Pam Boyd, Executive Director, ContinYou Cymru and Paulo Madeira from Swansea Youth Participation Team, led an interactive session ‘take your partners and your voice’.  This session provided delegates with an opportunity to ‘have a say’ and respond to questions relating to community focused schools and out-of-school-hours learning. Details of the questions and responses can be downloaded below:

Market Place

Our conference Market Place offered delegates the opportunity to meet with a wide variety of organisations and receive information and advice, and network. Read more about the organisations that held a stall in the market place.

Drop-in sessions

This year delegates had the opportunity to attend four drop-in sessions, from a wide selection of sixteen separate sessions, delivered by a range of organisations and their partners.

We were particularly delighted to have young people playing an active part in the conference. Eight pupils from Ysgol Plasmawr, Cardiff, attended the conference and contributed to the School Based Counselling drop-in session alongside Sylvia Jones from the Welsh Assembly Government. They also became our ‘conference reporters’, interviewing a number of people.
